They come in handy sometimes.

I always wondered how well they actually work. I always figured I'd bend or break the pins, strip the nut and cut up my knuckles.

I think the down fall, is the ‘socket’ is longer to accommodate the pins.

The question one needs to ask yourself,… how many and often of these specialized tools, do you use. I’ve found out, that owning a specialize tool that you rarely use, isn’t worth it under most circumstances..

the exception, as a diy’r, I’d would buy a harbor freight tool like a SDS drill, and treat it as a consumable. I don’t use it often, but it’s was worth having when you need it. And it’s easy on the wallet.

on the other hand,… my biggest weakness, is that I don’t ask myself the above question enough… when it comes to having or getting a new tool… I’ll just get it… and then set on the shelf, and not use it because I forgot I had it.

I have a similar addiction, can't resist buying a shiny new tool, even I don't really need it.

I've used it a few times. Works great.

They are MUCH tougher than you imagine.

However, the naysayers have spoken.

I have one in the "junk drawer" in the house. it is handy for odd sized and shaped items around the house that don't require too much torque. I do not have or use one in the shop.

I've had one for at least 20 years, never have used it.

I have read about them, but don't have one. I've had many stuck nuts, but not often with the hex stripped off. I had a set of Whitworth wrenches (that I kept many many years after getting them in a Sears store!) that fit some odd/rusted sizes, but my son has them now because he has a British toy.

Stuck not or bolt… I use Kroil

It’s pricey, but I’ve found nothing better…

I just wish they sold it in smaller containers… (I have an spray can of LPS No.2 ) that’s 30 years old… I gave up on disposing it… because it’s still works… shelf life is 5 years…

That's my choice too. Have used it for years. My son got me a gallon of it last year.

But an observation: I have had little problem with metric fasteners, but that very well may be that they are not 100 years old yet! Or maybe not exposed to the worst--such as an exhaust system.

According to this guy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUEob2oAKVs&t=507s

Liquid wrench is better. The nuts (4 per product) were torqued to 100 ftlb before being "corroded". After three 1 hour applications of each of the liquids they were removed.

He had two nuts left which he used a blow lamp on and as you can see that beat all the penetrating fluids.

The only thing which beat liquid wrench for price was a home made mixture of acetone and Automatic Transmission Fluid (health risks!).

I think he should have confirmed his results on some "real" very old nuts in a scrap yard.

I've used liquid wrench… In what's seems like another life, I worked at the ship yard, that's were I was introduced to Kroil.

I was impressed by performance. There was a discussion about it, the penetration, what I recall it was truly a penetration with something like smaller molecular structure…. Where it actually penetrates better. But that was so long ago,… I'm using my memory.

Dry, which I think means nothing at all, also is very good! There was an error in the initial publication about the acetone/ATF mixture. But it's been so long that I forget whether the actual addition to acetone was ATF or Power Steering Fluid.

You guys have got to try that Superzilla. I had several small house jobs and car jobs that have pestered me for months. I tried WD-40 and other penetrates with no luck at all.

I ordered a small bottle and I am most definitely impressed. The best I have ever used. It's non toxic and will clean just about anything. Like graffiti. Or fine machinery or knives and guns.

And no they don't pay me. It took care of my dog jobs. Might help you.

Speaking of WD40, I think there was a thread here on CR4 about it…

and with the internet spy’s, I was getting feeds about the uses of WD40… like removing gum from carpet, etc… just a sec… someone’s knocking on my door…

Put a small can of WD-40 in your tackle box. Say it's for your reel. To the fish/game warden. If the fish are not biting, spray a small amount on the bait or lure. Just a little. It's the best fish lure ever made. It never fails.

I have/or had one. Haven't seen it lately. The device works, my problem is the quality and fit. Smaller pins for a better, tighter fit. And a little compression force with the twist.
