An often requested subject here at CR4 has been “how to extend the battery life for my device”.
I cannot recall that a suggestion has ever been offered that seemed useful. Have there been any that I missed?
The reason for this is that I have stumbled across a very effective method to do just that: an external, portable, universal, reliable power source for digital camera, phone, laptop... ummm... rechargeable flashlight or camping lantern... Depending on you view of what ‘inexpensive’ really means, this is also pretty inexpensive.
Tool batteries. Adapters are available for these ubiquitous power storage appliances that are equipped with USBA and/or USBC power ports. Also available with connection points to tap (if I understand the manufacturers propaganda sheets) 12VDC.
My phone is old. Charge it up, I will get about 10 hours of standby, 3, maybe 4 hours of steady internet use. I connected a 4Ah compact DeWALT battery (about 0.3 henway, or about 20 ounces) to the phone, used the device as I usually do, stopped the experiment at eight days, extremely satisfied with this result.
I have seen these adapters for many of the big name tool guys: DeWALT, Makita, Milwaukee, Bosch -
Has this solution been tried by anyone else? Good or bad experience?
