How many miles per kg of coal is the question..? Talk about cheap fuel, doesn't get any cheaper than this I'll wager....

If only the steam-powered tea-stirring machine (© PWSlack, 1970) had taken off. The world would have been a different place...

Talk about air pollution, doesn't get any dirtier than this I'll wager.

Are you suggesting coal as a replacement of gas?

Nah, a steam powered vehicle uses too much water to be practical anymore....I might add that a good deal of your EV's are run on coal supplied electric...Clean is a relative term...

Didn't any one ever make a steam engine which re-condensed the steam?

Yes, but oddly enough it reduced the power...

Maybe a denser expander fluid would work...any suggestions?

...and it increased the temperature of the water in the tank(s), which caused the boiler feedwater injectors to fail to operate; injectors best work cold.

Not the best idea.

In marine steam engines, and most thermal power stations, it is everyday practice, of course.

Yes, indeed Najeeb !!! ...

The massive and continuous loss of steam-cycle water was not overlooked by the ancients. The re-condensed water cycle was pioneered by a pioneering Scottish Mechanical Engineer by the name of James Watt in the 1760s

https://www.britannica.com/biography/James-Watt

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watt_steam_engine

The Watt steam engine and Condenser pushed industrial England forward for the next 100 years

(But, as you well know ... the heat has to go somewhere ... !!)

We use to fall asleep at the glow of coke ovens. And the smell of coal smoke from the furnace early in the morning.

There's nothing wrong with simplicity in mechanical systems, you don't need a computer to run everything....

It's the fuel that's the problem, not the device.

China uses more coal than the entire rest of the world combined... and the US only uses about 6% of the total...
