Universal USB adapter

08/01/2023 2:50 PM

I have searched diligently for a universal USB adapter for all of the USB types that will charge as well as permit data transfer.

I have seen the individual adapters, but I am looking for a single adapter that has female and male ports for all of the USB types, but not a hub.

Seems simple enough, but I cannot seem to find one.Perhaps I have overlooked it.

Thanks in advance for all help on this matter.

Probably a kit is the best you can do...

GA, I suspect that an "octopus" adapter cable would not fare well with high speed data. Those are probably only suitable for power/charging.

You are probably right, the octopus cables I have seen are for charging only,so there must be a problem with data.

The problem may be with the shielding within the common conductors.

Perhaps a rotary switch to select and isolate each device's data lines.

Idle data lines could be terminated with a shunt or a resistor/capacitor of proper value to prevent "echos" on the line.

That may not be practical, and has probably already been tried.

I am probably trying to re invent the wheel.

It would seem to be a simple matter to make an adapter like this.

All have the same type wiring:2 pair,shielded.2 Signal,2 power conductors.

The main difference I see is the physical shape and pin out of the different adapters.

I am tempted to try to make one using a terminal block just to see how the unused ports will affect the speed.

If it works out, then I will make M F connectors to match in one enclosure.

Of course,I do not understand all I know about this,as usual,it is much deeper than it looks: "Like the mud puddle."

Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated.
