Dry Type Transformer

11/05/2023 10:24 AM

Read a specification that Dry type transformers shall be installed indoors , in an environmentally controlled area.

Location: Offshore platform

I understand that generally, dry-type transformers have been utilized for these facilities to reduce the likelihood of fire, avoid oil handling, etc.

But why not outdoors?

Dry type transformers just means that the coils are not submerged in oil, it has nothing to do with the indoor/outdoor rating....and dry type transformers do come in outdoor rated enclosures designated NEMA 3R...that being said, offshore application demands certain considerations above and beyond what would be expected in a less harsh environments...

All <...specification...> documents have sources and originators, whose contact details are thereon. It is unlikely that any is an Anonymous Poster.

A direct approach to the source is often quicker than asking on CR4.
