Two Questions......

12/15/2023 10:12 PM

A. Has anyone ever heard of a set of wireless headphones with memory (as a flashdrive) My Bluetooth wireless has failed on left channel. I just thought it would ease work on my phone to not use Bluetooth and load the tunes on the headphones just as I load them on a flashdrive and play them in my car. (Rory Gallagher and more......)

Stopped at a stereo store and the gentleman looked at me like I had three eyes (Twilight Zone??) But to his defense, he only knew "HIS" product line.

B. Has anyone else been so stupid - as my wife pointed out - as I seared some protein in the kitchen, I am used to setting off a smoke alarm positioned close to the stove. Thinking ahead I put a fan to circulate the air to not hear the alarm and set the dogs off.

After a couple minutes of this, my wife reminded me I took that smoke alarm down to replace the battery and did not put it back!!!

Maybe you can get some headphones with memory and noise cancellation to mask out that annoying smoke alarm...

I took a different approach entirely: FM, no static at all.

I have an MP3 player hooked up to a 0.1W FM transmitter and then I can listen to my complete music collection on random continuous loop anywhere around the house on the hi-fi or FM receiver headphones or clock radio or wireless or . . . .

Reliability of this unit has been good. I've been running this thing non-stop for ten years now without a problem.

I just found some dead air in the spectrum near the bottom, 88.3 MHz in my case, and set the transmitter to the low-power setting (0.1W) to be a good neighbor in case this el-cheapo transmitter spills over into adjacent bands. Not too many people in my neighborhood listen to N.P.R. so it's pretty unlikely I am going to step on someone's reception either way.

Instructions are not very good with this unit but the price is right <$100 at Amazon or on-line retailer of your choice. You will need to use a 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm plug cable to get the transmitter connected to your audio source. You will need to adjust the volume control on the left to get the right levels. If the audio sounds raspy (clipping), turn the volume down until the music sounds clear and smooth. I set my signal levels a little below the "volume levels" of local FM stations for the best quality while still maintaining decent dynamic range.

On the 0.1W setting, as I drive away from the house, the signal disappears in less than 500 feet so I'm pretty sure the G-Men from the FCC are not going to come barging through my front door.

I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition . . . .
