Asian Wind

04/25/2005 12:45 PM

The United States is not the only world power that may harness the wind for energy. According to one report, the Chinese government may locate wind turbines up to 30 miles offshore and in waters up to 120 feet deep.
Recently, other CR4'ers have posted articles about wind power. Would those who are interested in alternative energy please comment on the Chinese plan? Personally, I think it's a great idea.

What about Europe?

There are lots of European countries (maybe not "world powers", ok, ok, just kidding) that use wind seriously... Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, England.

Thesis Material?

04/26/2005 4:32 PM

It's ironic that the nations who are using wind power effectively are, in fact, former world powers. Did these nations learn something along the way about the vulnerability of foreign energy sources? After all, the Netherlands ruled the oil-rich Dutch East Indies until World War II.

Progressive Thinking

04/26/2005 7:24 PM

The first satellite image in the 'slide show' link shows eastern China clouded over in "smog."
67% of China's energy comes from COAL?!

Maybe China is more forward thinking than we think they are here in the States...they're skipping over the Nuke Energy and going straight for the Renewable Wind resource.
I think they've got it right.
