Analysis Paralysis

11/05/2025 11:36 AM

Most of us (I believe, anyway… I’ll consider further) have had bouts of paralysis by analysis somewhere along our timelines. In my own timeline, pursuit of the ‘perfect solution’, unwilling to accept an in-hand ‘pretty good solution’, has pushed many, many projects into overtime.

This fellow is in full lockup mode. His tee-shirt graphic is noteworthy.

Sort of humorous to watch, but a little painful as well. I can almost feel the angst.

Do you have an episode of overthinking to share? I have a few, but cannot decide which to revisit.

I certainly have this tendency! But have managed to avoid it most of the time. But, you know, I still wonder about the load cases I didn't check!!!

This is both a blessing and a curse, finally after retirement I have the time to pursue different projects with no deadline or constraints...it's heavenly!!...but some projects do get hamstrung for one reason or another, and sometimes the scope of the project must be reconsidered due to time constraints or runaway cost, mostly it's time, you only have so much of it left and want to make sure you make good use of it in any case, this is of course subjective in nature and everybody has his own priorities...but I find it helpful to bring in some help now and then just to get things moving, a catalyst is whatever works...a carrot of reward hanging over the finish line, whatever that motivating factor consists of, is a good tool...it could even be the desire for a clean slate, so you can start over....

Man you know she knows which is which. The problem is you need to know what she knows. Good luck with that! Pick one solution, assume it's wrong, and rejoice quietly if it turns out right. Then buy a lottery ticket before your luck runs out!

Just wondering here… I may drill into YooToob Land and see if there is another video of this character performing a time and motion study RE: realized efficacies of salt/pepper combined in a single point of use dispenser.

Then, of course, another regarding a point of use dispenser with three discharge ports (holes) vs. four ports.

I could probably worry a problem like this for four, maybe five days!

I know exactly how he feels. Something that you were assured of and comfortable with…… comes into question and becomes very confusing. To the point of which end is up.

Insert a precision fully rectified carrier into a Marconi antenna feedpoint. And then, AM modulate it.

Unexpected and very confusing.

They say that perfection is the enemy of completion.

The guy in the video reminds me of my first college roommate (50 years ago). After coming home from a date, he would lay in bed for an hour psychoanalyzing the girl. "When I held her hand she squeezed it. She thanked me for opening the door for her, but when I tried to kiss her, she backed away. I don't know if I should ask her out again..." Aaaahhhh!!! Drove me crazy!

Recently we spent over $40,000 having our concrete pool deck dug up, new concrete poured covering a larger area, sprinklers moved, a thousand paver stones installed around a tree, pool tile repaired, a purgola built, etc. My wife (and I) are disappointed that it's not perfect, but it's pretty good. I explained to my wife that we've reached the point of diminishing returns. The more imperfections we find, the less motivated the contractor will be to ever get it done. The only way to get it perfect is to do it ourselves--and we won't live long enough for that.

Good enough is often good enough unless lives are on the line.

His girlfriend knows him and gave him a gift she knows will throw him into a loop. Sneaky girl.

I rarely get into such situations. If my ex-girlfriend gave me such a gift, I will decide which one will hold the salt and which will hold the pepper. It won't matter to me what others think which container should contain which, what matters is "I" know what's in them.

Then again, my ex-girlfriend will never give me such a pair of gifts because I don't cook. She cooks for me...and our children. (",)

regards,

Vulcan

Ah, well… this is a splash of cold water.

The yootoob video in my original post here at CR4 has been removed from yootoob by the original poster of the video.

It was pretty funny.

They actually a term for that, ‘Target Fixation’. It was discovered in WWII, when a fighter pilot would be so focused on a ground target, and he’d actually crash.

some times on a project. But once you know or a better word ‘aware’ you snap out of it. Because sometimes, one goes beyond, and instead of doing something satisfactory stopping, instead you over do it.
