Meta Moderation on CR4

03/14/2006 3:09 PM

Maybe it 'cause I've been getting senior discounts at Hardee's for several years, or maybe it's 'cause meta-moderation doesn't work the way I think it should. When I think a reply is good, I "edit" the score, which sends me to another page where I can modify the score. If the score is already 1, I choose "+1," (under Karma, for example) does that add 1 to the score, or should I choose "+2?" Then, when I click "Save," I would expect to be sent back to the meta-moderation page, but nooo . . . I have to use the back button twice to get back. 'Splain yourself, Ricky.

You’re right...

...we do have some explaining to do. A little background first. We set up the moderation and meta-moderation systems so that users would be grading posts, not each other. We also went with word concepts (insightful, informative, interesting, etc.) instead of a straight numbers to avoid a competitive situation. In hindsight, I'll admit it, we got a little too cute. Mod and meta-mod don't work as well as we had hoped (both from a moderation standpoint and a technical one). We are working on a new platform for this site, with plans of rolling it out around the end of summer. Suffice it to say, the new rating system will not be anything like this. In fact, if anyone has thoughts or suggestions on a new system, let us know. We are very open to ideas at this point. - Chris
