Ultrasonic Degreaser

12/13/2007 4:38 PM

I'm looking for an ultrasonic parts washer that can use Acetone or Xylene, I need at least 15,000 in^3 of volume. We'll be washing laminations, stacks and stators for electrical motors.

Hi,

it is not useful to use ultrasonics with these and other organic fluids.

Simple agitated washing, rinsing, spraying will do.

Ultrasonic cleaning relies on the cavitation of small gas bubbles giving big impacts and blowing away the dirt.

As an organic fluid is never pure but has a content of other organic fluids that have higher vapor pressure there will remain a tiny bubble of these organic contaminants at brakdown of any bubble . This tiny bubble will act as a shock absorber. So you will not get the cleaning action you want.

Same situation if starting your ultrasonic cleaner with fresh water and a lot of air is dissolved in the water. This will need boiling or 15 minutes of bath operation to remove the air and only then the cleaning is good.

Hi RHABE,

We need to use a chemical that does not affect the steel by oxidation, tha's why we have to use a petrolum based solvent, do you know of a solvent non-organic and non-water based ?

Why not use a steam cleaner with a degreaser?

Just don't use a phosphatizer in the solution.

After cleaning you put the parts in a dryer. That should take care of it before oxidizing sets in.
