Audi R10 TDI off to a great start...

03/16/2006 1:28 PM

With his best time of 1m 47.308s, "Dindo Capello beat the track record which was set in 2002, and was less than a second slower than the fastest lap time of the car's successful predecessor, the R8 set during tyre testing last winter."

If the R10 is successful this could open the doors to even more diesel powered cars. These cars already have several advantages over their gas counterparts; namely variable geometry turbo chargers, faster refueling due to increased restrictor plate sizes, fuel economy and above all the higher energy content in the fuel.

Diesel revolution

03/24/2006 10:24 PM

The revolution isn't in the original Diesel design,(which is excellent) but in the thermal energy stored in the fuel, which also requires less energy to produce. Fossil fuels will eventually be depleted, and will be replaced with organic based fuels, or something harmful to our environment. Imagine the results from turning hungry land owners into profitable producers. One example is Soybeans, another is Corn. The oil has similar thermal energy properties to Diesel,(except sulfur) and it's byproduct is edible protien. Couldn't we help relieve third world poverty and hunger by creating demand for their produce? Oil is an excellent source of energy, and it doesn't have to be fossil based. Rotory power is also available in Turbo Diesel, which is much smaller and lighter, lower in vibration, has a broader RPM range and is mechanicaly efficient as well. But the Audi is sweet.
