In general any book by Darle Dudley. Handbook of Practical Gear Design by Darle Dudley in particular.

Best Book I ever read was the Bible, try the NIV version.

It has all the information in it you will ever need..

I've read it too. Front to back. Even the boring bits.

Never found a section describing how to use an old manual dividing head in there.
