Siva, Please correct me if i am wrong...what you are asking is .... Aged earth rods at your installation have resistance more than 3 ohms....what should be done to reduce this value.? Well relaying the copper mats/rods ( if they are severely corroded) and putting water absorbent material at the pits...watering the pits at regular intervals are some of the methods. Good luck

Thank you, i understood your suspection, installed earth rod past 3 yrs, studied that water table has gone down and repeated watering resulted a better values.

With kind regards.

Hello Siva,

An old trick to achieve a lower earth-rod resistance, is to urinate where it enters the ground.

It is far safer to have the Mains supply turned off, just in case of problems, as I have seen a dog get a nasty fright, in the middle of that operation.

Depth of rod is normally better than thickness or width.

Over 40 years ago, I had to earth a metal-cased light fitting in a public telephone box, at a Construction village for new Hydro Stations in New Zealand's South Island mountains.

The soil was alluvial gravels, and after driving the first electrode, nothing showed up because the water table was over 15 feet below the surface.

In the end, we drove 12 electrodes, all close to and around the telephone box, bonded them all, and connected to the metal case of the light fitting.

We did not achieve the low earth resistances pecified, but when the Electrical Engineer saw the impossibility of obtaining the resistance required, he agreed there was no better solution.

With falling water tables in many locations, a better earthing system is needed.

This can often be an earth mat = bare copper heavy wires or strips, welded to squares and buried.

The main reason for an earth electrode is to minimise electric shock, so bonding of all exposed metal to the earth electrode is important.

Advise further, if you are able.....

I once saw a dog on you tube get fried by a short circuit in a lamp post. Sad to see the dog running around like that. Makes you wonder if it is done deliberatly for the purpose of the film???

If so the purpetrators should be forced to urinate on it themselves.

Even further off topic, I used to hunt worms for fishing with two iron rods linked to mains power.

The closer together the faster they come up. And yet I think the frying of some pug is cruel

I'm not swimming anywhere near your place, after that explanation.

Cheers....

Don't worry, it was a long time ago and I wasn't after your worm anyway.

You remember this one?

Hello case491

I could not see your Graphic, as it just shows up as a square with a wee icon inside.

That is because at least one of my Security Applications here, consider your wee picture as unsuitable.....

Meanwhile, here is a typical intelligent worm from New Zealand.....

Unless your security considers Labyrinth (1986) as unsuitable, I don't see why that should have happened. I assure you it just showed the little worm that guided the girl on her way through the labyrinth, telling her that not everything is as it seems.

Maybe that is why, your security thought it is not all it seems

Hi case491, again,

Have another Post and ensure it is a JPG or GIF file you upload to CR4 please.

That way, unless it contains Malware or Adware, or some dodgy script etc, I'll be able to see it.

I run some 13+ Security Applications, in a "Guard" Status, on a 24/7/365+ basis here, simultaneously and all carefully paid for, hand selected by myself to work harmoniously together.

Have a re-post with the pic, and we shall see what it's made of......

Alternatively, you could .ZIP or .RAR it, and PM to me - that normally works in a Forum situation.

I may be able to advise you the cause, if there is a continued problem with seeing your graphic.

Cheers.....

WWW stands for weird wonderful and whoopsydaisy, it is only a worm and with pink/purple hair at that.

Ok here we go. Just to shut you up You are lucky I know where I found it lest you think I am a geek.

Thank you for your pic case491

I could have done with some chilling air here yesterday, it was 34 degrees Celsius at 11pm.

I was not panicking in case you sent me a worm.

Your second attempt is plainly visible here, since you uploaded it to your Post, and a very nice picture it is, too, ..

The earlier graphic properties indicate you linked in that Post from an external website - it may well be that CR4 Forum Software does not allow that, for Security reasons......

Puzzle solved.

Cheers.....

In addition to the above suggestions, You can put in several parallel grounding rods to reduce resistance. Spacing them farther apart will help a little.

You will likely have to re-install a grounding mat or field as the other posts suggest. However, if you need to pass a "ground rod test", try throwing a LOT of rock salt around the present ground rods then run a LOT of water over the salt to wash it into the earth. This will reduce ground resistance but unfortunately will assist in the degradation (rusting away) of any ferrous grounding structures. ( You'd have to host a MAJOR beer party to yield enough urine to make a difference......)
