small LCD display questions

12/19/2007 7:21 PM

Hello

I'm thinking about building my own novelty ipod. I recently acquired a broken polaroid i533 that has a relatively large LCD display. Is there any way to interface this display with a computer's VGA output? I've looked everywhere and can't find anything.

Thanks

Hello Entangled 1,

Yes there is a way to do what you ask.

But it may prove an expensive exercise for you.

I'm sure if I searched the Internet, I could come up with the details, within 10 minutes, so have a further look.

If you are really still puzzled, reply here with

Kind Regards.....

yes it can but the cost may go up to ten time than ipod cost.

as it need basic display driver and software along with processor and other hardware.

due to large production and single processor they are cheep but for single application its not feasible and economical.

Thanks!

I came to the same conclusion as well. It took me a heck of alot longer than 10 minutes though! Unfortunately I've been forced to abandoned the idea, unless I happen to come across a REALLY cheap touchscreen display.

FYI: I fixed the camera instead. Totally crappy design. Polaroid i533 apparently powered down due to dead battery before the lens could retract completely. A sensor on the rotating lens housing prevents the camera from starting if it is not completely 'seated'. I called Polaroid, thinking that there must be a work around, and was told that it is a common complaint and there is no way to repair the camera.

Couldn't trick the sensor so I had to force it. Got lucky and nothing broke.

I wonder how many other cameras have this same design?

Most are user dropping them and poping the batteries. Then the camera fail to retract the lens. If you check eBay, you'll lots of camera with lens sticking out waiting for repair. All it need is take it apart and push the lens back in. Providing nothing was broken. I got some with missing gear tooth.
