Boiler determination

12/25/2007 3:40 AM

We carry out 1 reaction in a reactor which is to be heatd by athermicfluid. I want to buy a boiler. But I want to decide the capacity of the boiler that i have to buy. Can I get the formulas to decide the energy (KCAl/Hr )requiredfor the reaction

pl make sure the reactor is suitable to use steam of boiler with regard to strength and heat transfer area?

I hav recently joined a company, which has existing thermopac system of 600000Kcal/hr,which is used to heat the reaction maass in two glasslined reactors to 192°C. But I now want to buy a boiler system sufficient for 10 Reactors of larger capacities. Similarly we hav one more reaction where steam is used a heating media, But the boiler capacity is to low as the reaction takes much more time to attend the required temperature, I want to buy a new boiler for that too, but of what capacity, How to determine

We carry out 1 reaction in a reactor which is to be heatd by athermicfluid.

We translate your sentence as follows:

The process has been carried out as 1 reaction in a reactor. Athermic fluid is the heating medium.

Q: How did you heat the athermic fluid? to carry out your 1-reaction process?

Then you said that you want to buy a boiler? and you need to know the capacity of your boiler for your reactor use?

your comments please!!!

mmayyurr:

When you apply the steam heating application, what is the preheat temperature of the reaction mass, prior to reach the 192 deg C.

Please note that Thermal Oil Heaters (Thermopac) is one of the effective method in heating application at higher temperature.

I believed that if you are looking for steam heating application, you might need the super saturated steam for high temperature. However, It not recommended by boiler manufacturer in a small capacity boilers. Super saturated steam is use only in Power Plants, Paper manufacturing. Operation and maintenance of super saturated steam boiler is not so simple as a saturated steam boiler.

EQuipment & installation cost of a boiler room is quite expensive compare to Thermal Oil Heater.

if you can furnish me a process diagram, perhaps i can help out on your expansion project.

for your info: 1 BHP = 8,447 Kilo-Calories

Your thermopac capacity as u mentioned, 600,000 kcal/hr = 71 BHP. this is a very small boiler. What is the boiler operating pressure?

What is your boiler Design / Type ? is it 3-pass or 4-pass Fire Tube Boiler? Fuel? Boiler Feed Temperature?

regards

Go back to the Process Description document, written by the Process Engineer. That document will contain all the information necessary about the process to enable utilities to be selected and sized.

The forum is not equipped to answer this question, because the capacity needed from a <...boiler...> will vary greatly between operating one <...reaction...> at a time and operating several or all of them simultaneously, and the Process Description document cannot be seen from here.
