Air Compressors

12/27/2007 6:11 AM

Dear sir,

For our molten metal atomization process,we are looking for air compressors with pressure to a maximum of 15 bar and air volume at around 700 c.f.m.with power approximately 150 Kw.Kindly suggest us a suitable compressor (screw or reciprocating)for our application.

Which compressor is suitable for metal powder atomization process? Reciprocating or screw

This compressor looks interesting:

You may even utilize the heat to help control moisture during compaction and forming.

Check out GlobalSpec. It's a web site for engineers that lets you search for products by specification. Just go to http://www.globalspec.com, type Air Compressors in the Find box, and choose Search. From the list that displays, choose Air Compressors. Next, find the "Filter Your Catalog Results" box (it's on the left). There, you can select different options. Here's where you can search by pressure and volume.

I clicked on the Maximum Pressure text and entered 15 into the At Least box and selected Bars as my unit. I also entered At Least 650 and No More than 750 SCFM for Maximum Free Air Delivery. Then I updated the results.

I got two products from Atlas Copco that might do the trick. These are both reciprocating piston compressors.

Good luck.

Kaeser Compressors, Inc., info.usa@kaeser.com

Bought one with variable speed drive two years ago. Has been very reliable. Most of the bells and whistles that the other manufactures offer as extras come in the standard package. The only draw back and that is questionable in that i don't have a long history with this make. Is that Kaeser compressors have a very large sump on their compressors. This helps to reduce the operating temperature increasing compressor life. The draw back the synthetic oil is expensive needs to be changed every 4000 hrs of operation. All compressors require this change about once a year. Kaeser will warranty there compressors for 5 years.

The synthetic oil helps keep the energy consumption, heat and wear down!

It is worth every penny.

I agree about the function of the oil. What I was bring up is the quantity that a Kaeser uses.

This is a very crtical application.

Screw copressor is superior to reciprocating ones in performance and running duration especially at a high power rating like yours

Should you run the compressor for more than 4 hours then a screw compressor is a must

Should the oil content with the compressed air may harn you process you should go to the oil free compressor family and again the screw comp is the solution

As for the comp maker you may deal with the one who has a the nearest service center to your plant, that is to make easy for service, repair and tech support

ATLAS COPCO, INGERSOLL RAND may be the proper suppliers
