I have read the posting on subject above and found them interesting. A 10 LED flashlight was recently purchased and is the brightest eber owned, powered with 2 3V 124A Lithium batterys. A 12 watt version is also available. The source is all-battery.com in CA which primarily is a source for NiMH, Lithium etc batteries.

The Thread is of interest, and Donald of Campbell apparently knows what he is talking about. I was the House Electrician for a Motley Crew Show at the GSO PTL now Coliseum in 1995 or so. The T Shirts were brand new, made in 1985. Not much finesse called for, just a lot of power.

There is a Lighting and Laser Blog, so possibly we ought to just visit there when thinking of lighting.

In motion picture production the saying is, a light without its barndoors, isn't a light.

I do not expect one light to be appropriate for every need.

A lamp and a light are really two different things.

There is always a conflict between quality and quantity and you can make a large light small, but not make a small light big.

For home use I myself would like to see more battery operated lights since I am for some reason in love with batteries and can't find enough reasons to use them.

Lensing, gels and all that can change the character of most any light source and just like anything else, the right tool needs to be applied to the job at hand.

"It costs what it costs, and takes what it takes."

P.S. For Xmas I got a Buck Whitacker that has an awesome blade, crosspoint & flat screw drivers, plyers, can opener, and flashlight, (blue LED). It is wonderful to wear on your hip, and I have helped old men out with problems already since I've been carrying it.
