Lame Anti-Hybrid Tax Proposed in Oregon

Want more proof that some people just don't get it? This article describes a plan to tax drivers on the number of miles they drive, not on the amount of gas they use. Why? Because hybrids, by being more fuel-efficient, will generate less gas-tax revenue for the state! What a freaking travesty!

This has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Wanna bet the sponsor in the Washington State legislature owns an SUV? I agree with the Virginia State Senator who said

"If you're trying to clean up the environment, there can't be a worse incentive,"

How about raising the gas tax instead? That increases revenue from the hybrid owners and also nudges the Humvee owners to move to something a bit more environmentally friendly.

This would be like taxing nicotine patches and gums because revenues from cigarette taxes are falling.
