We used clock spring to repair a 42" suction/fill pipeline connected to crude oil storage tank. This was about one year ago. We are now noticing cracks at all connections/joints of the clock spring. Streaks of rust is also noticed along these cracks. This is not a good sign, it is an indication that corrosion is taking place underneath the clock spring.
What could have been responsible for these cracks? The pipeline can be subjected to a temperature variation of about 98degreeF during suction and 105degreeF during filling. Could the expansion and contraction of the pipeline contribute to the formation of these cracks?
1. How can we repair these cracks?
2. How can we address the corrosion that has already taken place?
3. How can we prevent this from happening again?
Happy New Year to everyone!
