Rod end tube insert

01/01/2008 6:24 AM

I'm looking for a part that I thought would be pretty commonly used and a standard part manufactured by several manufacturers. I can best describe it as a tube insert with a rod end on the end. I've included a pic of one I drew to make the description more clear. One end fits into a round tube (and has a hole to rivet or bolt it in place). The other end is flat to fit into a slot and has a hole for a pin or shoulder bolt. Depending on the use, it may pivot around this hole.

Has anyone seen a part like this and can anyone recomend a manufacturer, distributor, or resaler?

Terminal Lugs

A.E. Petsche offers both soldered and crimped type terminal lugs providing for both convenience and precision applications such as securing and splicing complex cable assemblies.

Naw ! I cannot be right. But they look close.

Thor,

Go to

www.Mcmaster.com

and search for rod ends. They're used a lot in small linkages and hydraulic cylinders. You probably have to drill the rivet hole yourself. If they don't have what you want, look at PIC or Stock Drive Parts or (maybe) Reid Tool.

You will find similar on AM/FM antennas where the antenna mounts to the housing of the radio.

Hello Thor,

Depending on sizes and materials needed for your application, try a yachting supplies warehouse.

These sort of parts are commonly used in yacht rigging.....

Thanks for your suggestion. After a bit of searching and finally searching for "rail hardware" I found exactly what I need. http://www.boatersworld.com/product/329510168msk.htm

Hello again Thor,

No doubt you'll be fitting them to the end of yourhandlebars.

Kind Regards....

Sparky-

In truth, I'm glad the question was asked.

I have been wanting to design a trailer for my bicycle and this gives me some ideas for the hitch.

To the OP- Thanks for asking!!

What you seem to be describing is part of a clevis/yoke assembly. This is often made up of 4 parts:

  1. Yoke
  2. Clevis
  3. Clevis Pin to hold clevis to yoke
  4. Cotter Pin to hold Clevis Pin in place

Your part is the clevis, or clevis tongue.
