According to MiddleEast Specifications we use a bus bar size of

1. 2 Nos X 80mm X 10 mm

Busbar design for MCC/PCC/SwitchBoards,there are many aspects.

1) Thermal current

2) Short circuit current.

3) Limitation in Temperature rise inside the PCC

4) Ambient temperature.

5) Sleeved Busbar/Unsleeved busbar

6)Enclosure Dimension

Based on the above input only the sizing can be arrived at.

For Higher rated currents

Rough thumb rule would be 0.6 amps per sq mm in case of Aluminium and 1.25 amps per sq.mm for Copper.

The calculations have to be made based on the above inputs.cross sectional area to be calculated for thermal current and short circuit current seperately .the higher cross section is between the two calculations have to be considered.

Hi

When we calculate the Bus Bar sizes, we will design it for meeting the Temp Rise limits, Short Circuit Current Withstand Strength in terms of Mechanical & Electro Thermal Stresses. What about the Bus Bar Bracings short circuit withstand capabilities? The Bracings / Bus Bar Joints are to withstand the Short Circuit Making Currents and not just the Breaking since that current is allowed to let through the Bus Bars. Any thoughts?
