Hi auchman,

These are very general classifications. Generally, static equipment are those having no moving parts, such as a shell-and-tube heat exchanger or a steam ejector. A static mixer is a long tube or pipe with stationary spiraled vanes inside. As the process fluid being mixed has to negotiate all of the twists in the tube, it is thereby mixed.

Rotating equipment is just what it sounds like. Examples of rotating equipment are: a pump, a turbine mixer, or a compressor.

A recip pump uses a plunger (piston) to pump liquid in much the same way that a recip compressor pumps gas. Recip pumps tend to be used for liquid injection, catalyst injection, and as mud pumps in oil well drilling operation. If you need very high discharge pressure, it will likely be a recip pump.

No, not everything... just a lot of process machinery trivia...
