New Year's Predictions and Greetings

01/07/2008 5:32 PM

Greetings and Salutations:
WELCOME TO THE FUTURE
Sometimes you can't improve on the past:
what was said may be an accurate prognosis:

Why re-invent the wheel?
by Dillon, minor modifications by moi

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown..
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.

If your time to you is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin' or sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come all you peoples,
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled.

There's a battle outside and it's ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be trashed
As the present now
Will soon be the past

The order is rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

================================

2007 was the year when "Global Warming"
became a familiar term, propogated by Mr Gore:
and therefore dismissed by many
as a left wing ploy with nefarious objectives...

But the "reality" began to set in with most
(as reality tends to do, eventually..)
and only blind fools
discount the changing climate prognosis...

Increasing future calamitous and unavoidable outcomes
arising from the increasing CO2 levels
will become generally propogated in 2008.
The seriousness these various consequences
could potentially pose
for the continuation of civilization
will cause increasing comittments by governments,
and increasing sacrifices by individuals.

A generalized trend of increasing desperation
of marginal societies thoughout the world
will be noted, and some horrid local conditions
will presage more distant realities to come.

A flux will be noted in religious participation.
Many will turn away from the empty manipulation
and clerical power abuses of the "Christian" (Jesus-ian)
modern era: but those "of the faith" will gain
in their blind adherence to the tenets they believe,
and will support increasing radicalism.

====================

There are many predictions that can be made with some confidence,
although their import is dwarfed by "climate change".
With carbonate formation chemistry
arising from increasingly acidic oceans competing with shell making critters of the ocean's ability to make the shells they need for survival, a complete collapse of the ocean's eco system is possible.

The shell making animals secure and impound CO2 for millinea, and if they are "off line" more CO2 will be released from the oceans, which are aleady releasing more because they are getting warmer.
There is no assurance that the current biosphere can deal with the dumping of the Carbonifierous ERa's CO2 without swinging way out of kilter. An upside temperature postulated approaches the boiling point of water. See "Venus".

Hello I)AVI),

Of course the climate is changing.

Climate is ever in a changing state, that is the nature of climate.

If climate never changed, this planet would be sterile, dead, and lost far out in the inter-galactic void, and none of would be here.

As far as predictions go....If you state some very definite thing, and it comes to pass exactly as described, then perhaps you did predict it, or guessed it, or looked ahead, extrapolating from present facts, to establish a possible future.

Most 'predictions' use the words: could, may, might and the like, thus giving the escape clause for the "predictor".

Kind Regards....

I "infer" from your response that you think that my predictions are asserted with little regard for the fact that I may be incorrect: yet who here among us is likely to think that absolute certitude about complex events occurring in the future is open for us to parse?

Nay, I deny the necessity for wimpy "fudge" words to provide sanctuary for my ego in the eventuality that my prognostications err: I stand by them 100%, and if shown to be wrong in the future, can readily proclaim that only a fool would impart to my capacity the ability to ken what has not yet come to be.

But I also discern some bemused discounting of that awful prognosis here laid out by my discourse: "as if", you seem to state, "change does not always occur.." thus discounting with one quick whiff the NATURE of the changes a-coming: as if it differs not from the general outline of recent history.

And by "recent", I mean the past several hundred thousand years, Friend:
There is "change": and then there are it's second and third order derivatives:

the RATE of change: and the rate of change OF the rate of change.

It is in THESE matters that the basis for my doleful projections lie: and your dismissive "Yeah, things change..." comment may be facile, but otherwise misses the point.

Now I will skip whatever argument or enlightened esoteric discourse which may or may not eventuate in regard to the conflict: and will skip to the conclusion which I hope you can talk me out of by reference to whatever intelligent points you or others may broach in the interim, which is this:

Were the axiom "Think globally and act locally" taken to heart and acted on with regard to it's underlying tenets, about 80% of we humans on the planet should immediately sit down and quit breathing.

And no, I'm not volunteering to be an "early adaptor", and likely you are not either, but my LONG RANGE prediction is that it WILL be done: One way or another.
