outsourcing

01/07/2008 6:04 PM

Which engineering jobs do usually get outsourced? I guess it is usually the office-work?, or can you be more clearer as to what kind of work gets outsourced? And are some fields in more danger of getting outsourced?, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical etc...

Shouldn't be any of these positions getting outsourced! None. Zip. ZILCH. I would say any of them are in peril of being outsourced. Did you know that some Dr.'s will send you to get an MRI or a CT scan and then have the "pictures" read by a third party ultrasound tech from hmmmm, say India or somewhere over there in the hope of saving money for the insurance company? That is what it is all about: Lowering the cost of getting the job done while keeping the cost at least the same if not raising it a bit! Thank You Corporate Agenda

Back in 2000 my son was working at a place where they had all redline drawings corrected in India. This was architectural drawings.

When they got the corrected versions back they were checked again and the final revisions were done in the U.S. at their facility.

In a 24 hour time period the company got about 16 manhours of work for the price of about 1.25 U.S. manhours.

I think all types of work will get outsourced. Most companies are looking at the bottom line and not at the welfare of the workers. Having been affected by downsizing and thus having a lower paycheck I am naturally biased.

I hear that lawyers are being affected.

In an ideal world all countries would have the same safety codes, the same wage, but that proabably won't happen until we're conquered by space aliens and forced into slavery.

Thus the comment about the CORPORATE AGENDA : Make as much money withthe least amount of expense. It is the most insane thing... Cut costs so that the share holders get a profit, never mind the people that they are putting out of work. Never mind; as well, that these people most likely will not EVER get a job in the same field making as much as the job that they had just lost. I heard a rumor a couple of years ago that Mac Donalds was going to test martket an idea that would have you order food at the drive-thru (nothing new there)but the person you are ordering food from is talking to you via the internet and would be in India or something like that. Have you had any problems with your cell phone? Same thing (most of the time). I do not know how this can be stopped, or even if it could be for that matter, but something has to happen to start guaranteeing the American workers rights (i.e. loss of jobs). Did you know, that when you hear the new job report on the news the number they are providing is including the number of people that have run out of UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE (!) that in actuality they have not gone to work, just fallen off of the "radar" and are not (in essence) making a wage? I do not know if NAFTA has helped to bring this on our country in big part, or if it is all the above mentioned Agenda. The Government is in the deep pockets of big business which is why you never actually see them trying to help the working people. What is Federal minimum wage? 5.15? That is incredible...
