Mac G3 startup

01/08/2008 12:17 AM

How do I startup a MacG3? I have OSX install disks and I put them in the tray and nothing happens. I just get this little smiley face blinking at me. I had a Mac once before and it worked fine.

Hello Charlie Greenwood,

I never use a MAC, because I think PC's are far cheaper, and may be modified to suit the user.

However I'll try to assist.

Do you have Admin rights?

If so, then read about the install procedure here:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=10669

Try that, see if you achieve the Installation of OSX.

If you need further help........

I think I have a couple of dead computers. I went to the college where they came from and talked to the tech there and followed his directions and nothing worked. I have since aquired G4 but it's useless because it contains no software except for some music.

Are these diskettes or a CD?

If it is a CD, hold down the 'C' key when you boot. Otherwise it will not start from CD!

If they are diskettes, then you may be out of luck. I don't think OS X anything will come on diskette.

Also, check the version of OS X you are installing and the minimum machine requirements for the OS. The latest OS X 10.5 does not support the G3 (G4 and newer only). I don't know which versions do run on the G3, so check the documentation.
