The modern methods of earthing are exactly the same as over 100 years ago.

Do you mean internally in a building, or the external system, driven or buried in the ground?

Advise what power system the earthing is for, please:

1. AC
2. DC
3. Voltage of the System requiring to be earthed.
   
4. If AC, Single or 3 Phase.
5. Typical ground electrical resistance = Rock, sand, gravel/shingle
6. Climate: desert, wet, monsoonal etc.
7. Location of the system requiring to be earthed, so other factors can be found, which bear on the answer.

The requirement for a Power station, Substation, Distribution Transformer, and final user are quite different.If you can give the above details, however brief, you may receive a proper answer, thank you.
