Determining Conveyor Dead Weight

01/11/2008 9:50 AM

I'm trying to determine how to assume the total dry weight of a conveyor. Any thoughts?

The original shipping documents from the manufacturer should have its weight listed.

Dead weight of the conveyor, or dry weight of the product the conveyor conveys?

Do you want to determine the deadweight value for a correct tension of the conveyor?

As you said any thoughts -- these are ones. I couldn't get what you need certainly as well what's presumed under "dry"? (1) If there been meant mass(weight) of conveyor device a whole. Ok! there are two ways. (i) look at docs and find out. (ii) if any docs were lost you should to calculate and/or measure all main construction members (I suppose steel) and then you can sum a all its masses. (2) if you mean to find weight of bulk material which is conveyed by conveyor you can: (i) to install there a belt scale device or and look at what its show you. (ii) as well you can estimate flowrate using expression Q=3.6qvT, where Q --- how much of "dry"/"wet" material has passed through conveyor; q - span loading of material [kg/metre or pnd/ft]; v- conveyor belt speed; T- time in hours. For assessment a unknown q=Sxp, where S - material transverse cut square [ metres^2;], p- material density (bulk).
