Metil metacrilate (monomer or a liquid prepolymer) is been used to bind sand grains as well as phenolic resins.

Sand should be dry, mixed with binder and should be dry heated to solidify.

But sodium silicate must work too, as a cheaper binder.

I have seen kits in the craft stores that allow one to use methyl methacrilate in exactly this manner. I imagine various other thermoplastics having liquid monomers would work as well as the phenolic resins (which I believe are likely thermoset).

Yes this works well, but if hardened by ammonia or CO2 its better.

And if switching to hydrolysed SiO2 = H2SiO3 then its very good.

Used in many applications (high precision high temperature casting) for making the molds from zirconia or ZrSiO4.

Look for Syton, produced by Monsanto. This is organic Si (silicon-tetroxy-ethyl) that is hydrolised with water and can be used for some time. At heating water is lost and SiO2 plus water is remaining for binding. If heating is above 1200°C almost pure quartz is obtained.

MIXTURE SAND AND SODIUM SILICATE --EXPOSED TO STEAM SHALL FORM HARD ROCK TEXTURED SURFACE,BUT IT DOES NOT POSSES THE PROPERTIES OF ROCK- LACKS IN EROSION STRENGTH. MAY I KNOW WHAT PROPERTY YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE BY THE SODIUM SILICATE SAND MXTURE EXPOSED TO STEAM?
