Die cracks occur mainly due to the following reasons.

1.Tool material

Die should be made out of hot working steel H13. This will withstand hardness and toughness upto 500 deg. centigrade

2. Die heat treatment

Die heat treatment should be free from decarburisation, scaling and free from internal stresses. The hardness should be between HRC 45 to 48. Tempering should be done atleast three times. Total heat treatment in Vacuum funace is preferred

3. Die cooling

Continuous cooling arrangement is required while in use.

4.Perodical stress relieving / stress tempering should be done to minimise fatique thermal stresses
