co2 removal

01/15/2008 9:43 PM

hi all! just had a thought on this global warming thing, what if we had a small scale co2 scrubber, easy to use and practical, and efficient, low mfg. cost, easy for john q. public to purchase, world wide availability, if enough of them were scattered across the globe, would it make a dent in the levels of co2, and possibly slow or stop global warming? like i said, just a random thought.

The scrubber will still require energy to drive it, so unless the fan and pump are powered by solar or wind energy, the fuel burnt to generate the electricity it consumes will probably negate any benefits gained. And you'll still need to dispose of the spent NaOH solvent.

Hello genx

We actually have a large-scale CO2 scrubber included in our lease of this Planet Earth.

It consists of grasses, trees, plants of all sorts, and oceanic algae, which all do a fine job, while they are in place.

Global warming, is actually a scam.

Back in the years around the 1420's, the arctic ice was sufficiently melted that grapes etc grew in Greenland, and both Greenland and Iceland, plus across the top of what became the old USSR was sailed by the Chinese Admiral Zhou Wen, on his way back to Beijing.

So, in those years, it could not have been the Industrial Revolution, motor cars, jet planes, aerosol hairsprays which caused the melting.

The main cause of global surface oscillations, is caused by higher or lower output from our nearest star, the Sun (Sol).

We can do nothing about the Sun's output, unless we install a very large sunshade, between us and it.

As far as sea-levels rising, if you really do the maths, and allow for all the Antarctica, Arctic, Greenland, Alaska, Rockies, Andes, Southern Alps, and Himalayan icecaps to melt, the total resultant rise of global sea-level is approximately 23mm.

Remember ice occupies a space larger than the water it becomes after melting.

The "Global Warming" threat, is a poorly thought out scam, to deprive folks of their right to travel freely, and allow further removals of freedoms we enjoy.

Kind Regards....

hello sparkstation, good reply! Like I said, it was just a thought, I was watching the news and they were talking about the " global warming ". I just think the folks of planet earth should be a little less reckless with all the beautiful things mother earth gives us to exist. Just one thing to remember, around the 1420's, the U.S. did not have 300 million people for a population, not to mention millions of cars driving about, and big industries all adding a little "extra" co2 to the air. So, I think its a bit of a scam, however, there is abit of truth to it. afterall, what will our grandkids be left with? carpe' diem!!

Yes! It is called plants in a greenhouse. You and your cat and your gasfired furnace exhales CO2. Your plant inhale it, and with a bit of sunshine they produce vegetables for you to eat. You exhale CO2, and the cycle repeats. It needs some work and care, but it is known to work. The more work you are willing to put in, the less the actual cash outlay.

Just a few years ago there was a huge glasshouse set up in the Arizona desert just to test exactly such a closed system, which will be needed for long distance NASA flights with people aboard. As a prototype it unearthed plenty of problems, but that it is the nature of things in development. As far as I know, the space station sill uses scrubbers. But longer flights are not feasible with them.
