We keep getting these ludicously vague questions on this forum....

'One extrenal factor' could mean anything from design, to supplier of the material or any one of the process involved in manufacture.

The question is either
a) Extremely clever insofar as it will make you consider all these factors (which is what I suggest you do) or it is..
b) Extremely stupid as it is so vague.
My personal view is that it is b).... I suggest however you should treat it as a)

I'll answer your question with 3 questions:

Why did you use 3/16" A36 steel for a catalytic converter?

What fuel was being burned?

Did you ever own a '58 Chevy?

Considering few parameters just give me some generalizes answer where i can look onto...I mean like what are the failures possible in the catalytic convertor at 1100 deg fahre which is made of A36 steel...
