As 'prevention' is better than 'cure', how does this concept relate to current practice?

If you have manuals do they give a maintenance schedule?

decades + ago when I worked for a company that supplied items such as crushers and conveyors I had to gather information to be put in the manuals that were sent to every customer.

Have you contacted the original equipment manufacturer? There could be a tag on the equipment with serial # and other useful information.

After contacting the manufacturer for Preventive maintenance schedules, monitor the equipment to see if any particular parts are failing sooner than expected. Adjust the frequencies to correct for whatever is needed. Such as lubrication, cleaning, adjusting etc. If contamination is a possible cause, look to shield the parts that are affected or step up routine cleaning. Bearing failure can usually be attributed to poor greasing schedules. Counter weights with cams should be greased well. If they are cable mounted, inspection of cables for wear and greasing of pulleys aligning cables are a must. Chutes, depending on the type of material being handled, can be coated to facilitate reduction of friction or to protect from wear.
