$$^@%^ - They're Going to Ruin TiVo

04/20/2006 5:10 PM

Royal Phillips Electronics has filed a patent application with the U.S. PTO for a device that will allow TV broadcasters to force viewers to watch commercials. TiVo and other DVR systems would not be able to fast forward through the commercials. Looks like I have another company to add to my boycott list.

Counter Counter Intelligence Makes Sense in $'s

Not to worry or fret. The Royal Phillips Gods have already designed and will market the "defeat" for the forced advertisement scheme. Only an Idiot would continue to fall into this merry get rich go round. The WTO will negotiate with Rice fair trade rights for China to supplant the advertisement with "WHO MET BUSH" "When was US bound"

Just turn it off!!!

Has anyone noticed we spend too much time watching TV?

We pulled the plug a long time ago and only watch one rented movie a week. What is even more amazing is we are busier than ever with higher quality activities sence we did it.

It's just a patent

There's way too much fuss about this. It's just a Patent. When I worked at GE we patented all kinds of crazy stuff that the company never pursued. It's all part of building up a patent portfolio.

In the end, if they try it, the market will tell them whether or not it will work.

Here in Australia we have the SBS (Special Broadcasting Service) and the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation, fromerly Commission). The ABC doesn't have ads and the SBS only has them in programme breaks. Both offer better programming than the commercial networks too. If they didn't exist I don't think the TV would get turned on at all.
