Doubt in Magnetic Field

Hello all, I am in research to find a "magnet motor" , I have about 90% of works finished in my project, but finally I need an information about the magnets for complete. If some one know, please can help me.

Question: are there any metals can cut "magnetic field"?

Explanation of my question: If we put any type of metal or object, will it be the magnetic field cut ?

Anything paramagnetic or ferromagnetic will do this - not just metals - even liquid oxygen.

Are you asking if there is a metal that will shield or interrupt a magnetic field? Any high permeability metal in sufficient thickness (or thickness of laminations) will do that for low frequency (below 100 kHz) and any good conductor will do that for higher frequency magnetic fields. You can go to the web site www.magnetic-shield.com

for information on mu metal which works best for low frequency fields. You can just Google Faraday cage for high frequency shielding.

But, I gotta ask. Are you trying to build a motor using the energy in magnets to power it? As Scotty would say "It canna work". The energy in magnets is only available when you pull the little Scottie and Westie apart and then let them move back together in a somewhat undignified position. Then you have to do more work before you get anything.

Just as an FYI: I worked for a magnetic shielding company and got somewhat acquainted with the field, so a word of warning--there is a lot of BS (American abbreviation for believable misinformation) being sold. Be sure that you know what you want for performance and design because you could be sold a lot of expensive nothing. That said, working with magnetics is a lot of fun!

to train the feild of the magnet you can use a permalloy or mumetal with a oposing magnet on the metal it will create a feild aimer if you are worried about flux patterns you may want to have a look as there is a study on rare earth magnets that was done in the 1980's it shows that all the rare earth magents have vortexes with a second oposit votex running inside. these feilds are hard to control at the best of times.

this looking like the bible of rare earth magnets i hope that some one can build a unit that can test other magnets as i have questions and no answers on a few patterns.

there is a guy in the us who is building a mapping device and is looking to get the total picture so we can build more projects

oh and ps there are restrictions on where mumetal and permalloy can be shipped as its a controlled metal this was what i was told.

I have never had any problem buying MuMetal in any of its forms (sheets, rods, wire, etc) or purities (80% 85% etc). If there is a restriction, I have never heard or dealth with it in my 12 years as a magnetics engineer.

We use Mumetal occasionaly, it has worked very well.

We mfg linear motors, and use it to sheild the mgnetic field from other items around it in very close proximity when neccassary.

WE have had no problems gettng it here in the US or in the UK.

To go back to basics, magnetic flux cannot be cut or stopped,but only shunted or diverted.

It should always be taken into account in magnetic design that the flux can't be stopped but will continue to flow round some path whether it's free space or the best ferromag material.

Ferromag material just concentrates the flux so most flows through it,rather than stopping or cutting it.
