That's not easy to answer without more details. Perhaps a Google search or Wikipedia search would get you started. Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformer_types as a jump off point. In general, types differ based on things like usage, construction, size, and electrical ratings.

Dear, as i am working in a marketing filed i also would like to know type of Transformers. As i Know

Distribution Transformers, Which is used in Distribution network

Power Transformers, which id used for change the Voltage level in transmission level.

Earthing Transformer, Which is used for control the fault network.

Generating Transformer - Which is used in generation Plant

this is my best of knowledge but i feel some other type of transformers are there but we don't know any this about that and their application if any body know about this please intimate me.

Autobots and Decepticons? (sorry, I couldn't help it. It just slipped out!)

You should try to be more specific with your question. Otherwise, its hard to answer without writing a small book on the subject.

How we check a faulty transformer means only one winding short priamry or secondry

Hi..im usually check the transformer faulty by methode winding primary short and secondary short ...Primary and secondary not to join(the cable PRIMARY and SECONDARY to open) and than test the winding by insulation test (Megger-set to 5 000 V)...Primary-Secondary, Primary-Ground and Secondary-Ground.
The result must be 1 kV = 1 M Ohm {VDE (catalogue 228/4)}, its mean if you have transformer 70 kV to 20 kV...Primary 70 000 Volt ..70 kV = 70 M Ohm (minimum),..20 000 Volt...20 kV = 20 M Ohm(minimum) there is for P-S.......... and for P/S-Ground...(Value * √3)...i hope u understand to my explanation.

Hi pearala.shiva,

Don't think anybody has mentioned isolation transformers. What are zig zag transformers? BTW, your comment was not off-topic.

Do not know whether it helps.

But we have

audio transformers; lan transformers; planar transformers; encapsulated transformers; balun transformers;high frequency transformer;flyback transformers;IFT transformers and so on.

The basic principal of all transformers are same. As per rating ans use they are normally classfied. For example

1. Power Transformer

2. Pulse Transformer

3. Booster transformer

4. control transformer

According to rating in KVA with Primary and Secondary voltage you can classify for your ref ; Rating 10 MVA Primary Voltage 11000 Volts Secondary 433 Volts, Frequency 50 Hz.

I hope it is clear to u now.

Regards

In addition to rating, they're classified by type e.g, autotransformers (variacs) are different than transformers that provide isolation.

There are iron core, ferrite core (normally toroids), and air core.

Iron core are for power supplies and audio frequencies. Ferrite have different types for different frequency bands, from <1kHz well into the megahertz. Air core are for RF frequencies. You will have to be more specific on your vector question.

A paraformer transformer is great for isolation. Whatever noise accompanies the input is eliminated, outputting only a true sine wave.

There is no shared flux ~ a paraformer acts more like a "resonant tank circuit". The biggest downside being inefficiency. Full draw on primary side regardless of how little load is connected.

Won't go any further right now... response is subject to fading memory on same

Very interesting discussion and I think we all continue to learn from each other. It would be helpful if the original Guest who posed the question would tell us if this has answered his/her question.
