Solar and Wind Systems

02/04/2008 8:01 AM

Hi Every one, I am looking for full software to help me in designing solar and wind systems starting from the load calculations, required power, selecting the suitable site to building my system in any place through over the world, type of batteries, batteries calculations.

In another words how to design the system from A to Z

Thank You

Wafaa

I don`t believe that there is any software fulfilling together all the requirements you requested.

The reason for that is that the design of such systems is rather complex. There are hundreds of different manufacturers of components like batteries, inverters, solar modules and they all may have different efficiencies and specialties which have to be taken into account.

And planning systems correctly all over the world (how big is your company ?) means that you need informations about the meteorological situation which you can only get from your local meteorological institute.

I would start reading with some fundamental informations about solar energy, angles and tilts determined by daytime and yeartime. Apart from that I would try to get some manufacturers data sheets with application hints.

Regards Uwe

Dear Uwe,

Let me to tell you that there are already software available for what I need, but it is so expensive,I know this information from a client to my company worked before in this projects, and he did not support me with this copy as it is one of the company principals.

Also regarding the geographical information I did not need this information what I need is how to determine the required battery, the system power in other words how to create the system basic not the battery type or the inverter or the cell type while it easy to me to make such selection

thanks, wafaa

Wind and solar are completely different industries and there is no panaceum to solve problems with some software.

My suggestion is to start by attending training seminars in each field and look first what national/continental associations of wind and solar industries, respectively, have to offer. One of them is:

http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy/renewable-electricity/7295

For wind, I would go for the Danish wind energy association:

http://www.windpower.org/en

and for solar to the European association:

http://www.epia.org/

Generally speaking, Europe is the most advanced and experienced in both fields.

You may also notice that is a lot of discussion not only on technical issues but also on risk management.

Any serious wind project starts with a measuring process over at least one year for site evaluation. For solar there are maps based on historical measurements (including tree growth rings) over one century or more.

System design softwares are usually developed by integrators using specific equipment and suppliers.
