milwalkie-ie....arbors

today.....was a bad day....i broke an arbor on the old milwalkie today.....milwalkie machine is a old-fashioned horizontal milling machine...with an arm (arbor) just above the moving horizontal table...i loaded the machine with 2-inch blanks (thread-cutting tap blanks)...all was good except for one tap was an 1/8th inch shorter than the others....(which snuck by the quality control man)....i torqued them in place...hit start-button....and BANG>>>>the cutter jumped when it indexed......hence....my broken arbor.....no worries tho.....thanks to the norton....i was able to grind down another......but it took an hour to do so.....the LINE was down for awhile.....buts it running top form ....once again.... thank u norton.....what a wonderful old piece of machinery!!!!

Automation minus good data or knowledge = Trouble and waste

Good thing you still had the ABILITY to correct the problem with an "old fashioned" tool(s). Good-on-ya' and an important reminder for todays world.

Never discount the least common denominator.

-Current but not forsaking "old-school" practices/capability.

Milwaukie...Milwaukee. You say tomato I say tomoto…no wait, that's not right.

I have a car that is older then me, what a wonderful old piece of machinery it is. But I don't use it for my work commute. I'm spoiled with all the comfort and convenience of the new machines. (Let that be cars or milling machines.)

Now when the new machine stops working, I have to take it to the shop or call the service tech. With the old machine I jump right in knowing that I can fix it!
