Load Cell Calibration

05/11/2006 1:59 PM

I need help finding a procedure to calibrate load cells. Our company uses Sensotec model #41 tension/compression "pancake" type load cells and I am trying to find a way to verify/calibrate them. Can anyone help me?

Need more data!

I am not that sure what exactly they are and I have no idea what their range is.

I also have no idea to what precision you need to calibrate them to.

However, my first thought would be to apply dead weights on top of them and check the output. That will work for the compression.

For tension you must invert the system and attach weights to the sensor. Don't forget to add the mass of the material you use to tether the sensor to the hanginging dead weight.

Am I missing something?

Agree that more data is needed and I don't know your process i.e. is is pharmecutical or hygenic but generally if no dead weight are available I use water as I can accurately measure volumes and temperature can easily be compensated for.

Temperature should not affect water's mass, only volume, right?

Load Cell Calibration

I would think that with load cell calibration, it's better to use a contract calibration company that is already equiped for the job and experienced with the procedure. You'll get the job finished with the least amount of down time and with the proper certs.

Contact the manufacturer to see who they recommend in your area.

Load Cell Calibration

Typically, metrology labs have NIST-tracable calibration equipment, but just for the heck of it, why not check out Honeywell website? They perform L/C calibrations as well sell equipment to do it.

Thanks for the info on the Honeywell site. It seems like I have been everywhere on their site except there.
