Finding the right MESFET

02/19/2008 12:26 PM

I'm looking for a MESFET that will work as a passive switch and only have a DC bias at the gate. I've been simulating several different types but haven't been able to find one that will give a large enough difference in impedance to represent a short and an open circuit (~300ohms). I'm getting pretty lost in all of these data sheets and it's starting to eat up a lot of time.

The source of the MESFET will be grounded, and the drain will be connected to an antenna that will be recieving a 2.45GHz signal. The gate will be connected to a 3V battery powered oscillator. The oscillator is pretty flexible as to what voltages it can output; anywhere from -10V to 10V, smaller amplitudes, only positive or only negative, you name it. I need to find the transistor to control before I can figure out exactly what the oscillator will output.

So with all that, I'm trying to find a MESFET that will give me about 300ohm difference in impedance between open and short with no DC bias at the drain. If you could give me any sort of direction or even let me know if this sort of transistor exists I would really appreciate it!

Regards,

Sprite

Are you quite sure that it is a MESFET that you are looking for? I have never heard of such a thing. However if a MOSFET is what you want, There's plenty of info on those. It's been many years since I worked directly with MOSFETs but I think that the main advantage was the greater impedance. Maybe my memory is going and I'm wrong. I'll have to dust off my notes.

funny i built this same thing in the last few week pulled my hair out i did but it runs

ok here goes

timer + transistor + igbt + igbt + igbt = hight speed pulse up to 35 amps if need be

have to step the voltage up as you go as you cant jump it will not work
