PVC BULKHEAD / retaining wall / minilevee

02/20/2008 5:14 PM

I need to constuct a mini levee (3 feet tall on both sides). The levee is normally dry.

the levee would essentially circles a property.

does a manufaturer make a pvc product for this applicatiion?

Not likely. Except for UPVC, PVC products deterioate under the UV of the sun.

Hello Guest,

You do not state the property perimeter size = length of the levee.

As stated by DVader1000 above, you would require UPVC, or else replace that PVC Levee approximately every 6 or more years, dependent on Ultraviolet component in your sunshine.

Better ways of making the Levee abound:

  1. Wood
  2. Concrete
  3. Rock/Clay
  4. Other....

Kind Regards....

Like others have stated (or rather questioned), why PVC? I might suggest Bentomax clay liner blankets, that way, you could top it with soil and grow grass, or put just about any other kind of surface treatment you want on it, and not have to worry about uglines and degradation.

It depends mostly on code requirements in your area. For example concrete blocks and pressure treated timber is acceptable in the Americas, while Europa prefers precast concrete blocks (this is very general). You will find you town's building inspector quite helpful, so that you do not run afoul later. PVC has no recognised physical attributes for construction.
