CAM software needed

02/24/2008 12:32 PM

Hi guys,

Does anybody know an appropriate CAM software which converts SolidWorks file into G-Code for plasma machine cutting?

I work with SolidWorks but I need to do dwg filles for the plasma cutting machine. It's kind of wasting time.

Have a look at MasterCam.

Cam Express by Siemens will do the job and more. It will read your Solid Works files saved as ParaSolid, STEP 203/214, IGES, or DXP/DWG.

So, you mean I will have my part file saved as Parasolid and through NX Express Cam I can have it cut on my plasma cutting machine?

I will explain what we do now so it gets certainly clear. I design my object like a steel bus bar which is 100x50x5, then I save the 3D part file as a Drawing in SolidWorks (Scale 1:1), then I save that Drawing file as Dwg file for AutoCAD and then draw the paths in AutoCAD, in other words the edges along the sheet metal that I need to be cut. Then I save that file as .txt and go through G-processor on the plasma cutting machine's PC.

Long long way to get a simple part cut.
