It's Got to Be the (Wireless) Shoes

05/24/2006 8:24 AM

It looks like Nike might have gone off the deep end on this one. They are producing a wireless connection kit that provides running shoes with connection capabilities to Apples iPod Nano. The runner will be able to access distance, time, pace and calories burned on the screen of a nano version of the iPod via a sensor inside the shoes. The first set is a kit you have to "install" yourself, but Nike is looking at having them incorporated into sneakers.

Why not? I am an avid bicycler, and I have a computer on all 6 of my bikes that does all that. Shouldn't runners have the same advantages?

Wireless

A wireless iPod or MP3 player would be a lot more useful for those of us who aren't getting any faster, but are slowed down (or at least inconvenienced) by dealing with those darn wires.

Get Smart!

Can Maxwell Smart's (Agent 86) Shoephone be very far off? Remember, "I'll have to call you back Chief, my other shoe is ringing."?

Hmmm, will these shoes be Bluetooth, or should we say, Bluetoe, capable?

Why not just put in a satellite radio receiver so that joggers don't have to endure those terminally annoying skips and spaces in homemade mixes? Being always oblivious can't possibly be a bad thing. 8-)))
