Selection of Bearing

Dear Sir,

How to select the Bearings like Ball bearing, Roller bearing, Plummer block with Ball bearing, Plummer block with Roller bearing, for any application & also how to calculate the load ?

First, I think Plummer Block is a trade name for one kind of self-aligning housing. Am I right in thinking that?

Most of the major bearing manufacturers have application guides and you would do well to get a couple of catalogues to start with. Contact folks like SKF and Kaydon or just go over to the nearest bearing distributor and ask for some literature.

A number of machine design books also have decent sections on how to select. I use Walsh's Electromechanical Design Handbook as a quick starting point, but there are lots of others.

If you don't know how to calculate loads, I suggest finding an experienced engineer to double-check your design. It's not usually very tricky, but there are some small issues (interferences, overhangs, etc) that can mess you up if not picked up.
