Hi,

if you know the process that you want to have then there can be some advice.

There are too many coating possibilities existing and every day some more are coming up.

Go to the next university library and try to read the last 25 years volumes of "thin films" or similar periodicals to get an idea what is going on.

Try to spend some fine days at the next manufacturers site to see what is going on there (not very likely they will let you in), may be a good idea to visit Balzers company at Balzers, Liechtenstein, (mini-country between Switzerland and Austria), they sell machines and processes. Try to get really educated.

Normally you buy a coating machine that is suitable for mass production, having two big gate valves at in and out connecting the main vacuum chamber to the enter and the out chambers. Only these are connected to the outside if open, then pumped down with a roughing pump then further down with a turbo-pump so that the very good vacuum in your coating region is not affected by bringing uncoated parts in and coated parts out.

You buy the machines from a machine supplier, you buy the process from a process developer, you put both together and start your own experiences. This will take some 3 to 5 employees working continuously on the process and machine, you will need a room that is suited in size and in cleanliness, the cleaning facilities or transport boxes if the parts are to be coated immediately after molding, you will need technicians that are used to high vacuum and high voltage and high frequency equipment and some more ands.

So if you have 2 to 10 million $$ to start with and the educated people to run the equipment this may make sense.

If you want to buy used equipment, please send me an email.
