Transformer cable size

03/08/2008 11:38 PM

My Plant will have an expansion. So,we need to change the Transformer to a bigger size.Existing Transformer was 7.46MVA.So,we will change to 10MVA.For old transformer we use 300mmsq2 X 3Core cables. So I would like to know either this cable can stand with new transformer power and current amp.If not, what the cable size I have to use and how to calculate the Ampere to choose the correct cable size.

Hello Yasser

Refer to the post by manirul here: http://cr4.globalspec.com/comment/193572/Re-MV-Cable-Sizing-For-Sckt

That should assist you in your calculations/sizing of cables for the new transformer.

Kind Regards....

Owh..Ok.So here I have to install new 10MVA Transformer with 11kv,50Hz,power factor 0.95..before this the Rectifier transformer rating was 7.46MVA with booster Transformer (1.856 MVA) so,both of them give 9.316 MVA...The cable size was 300mmsq XLPE(AL) x 3core coming from supply 11kv.The length for this cable was around 250Mtrs - 300Mtrs..For info, this is a load tap changer transformer 0-12.So,I would like to know what parameter I have to look or calculate to estimate the cable size and also either this existing cable can be use for this 10MVA transformer. If anyone have any formula to calculate or how i'm gonna do with this things pls leave any suggestions.Thanks..
