Solution/Glue for Stainless Steel Hinge

03/13/2008 7:54 AM

Hi! I need some help regarding the stainless steel hinges. Can any body tell me what kind of solution or glue is used for for smooth and slow motion in hinges?

This stuff will make them go pretty slowly:

I'm banging them out for 50p a tube. How many do you want? <Wheeze>.

Please tell us what you want the hinge to do. I don't think you really want to glue it - that's the sort of thing you do to the hinges on Stinky Pete's liquor cabinet!

Glue it thats what stinky pete would do? I want the hinge to have the regular smooth motion like bearing hinges. I have seen the stainless steel hinges having some material between the hinge sides and the rod inserted in them which makes their movement pretty regular even under load.

Well, why did you ask for glue, and why didn't you say that you'd sussed it out already? I'm left with a large amount of SuperGlue that no-one wants! <Wheeze>.

Thermo plastic thrust bearings. Manufactures use different materials as a bearing. Nylon, UHMW-PE, Delrin are some.

Some cabinet doors use either a stroke-dashpot to slow down the opening/closing, or a bumper-dashpot to slow down the final closing action. These people can help:

Turntables used a product on the tone arm lifting device called damping fluid. That is what allowed the tone arm to set down gently. Of course you were only dealing with about a half a gram. High end audio shops should carry it or this is what a google search provided. I hope this helps.

As is common in this forum we need more information. There is some reason there is a stainless steel hinge used. From the information we have, we cannot tell if we would need tweezers or a fork lift to assemble the hinge. Please, more information.
