Pulley and belting

Hi guys

Is there any guideline in pulley and belting system. Example I want to transmit 20hp power and 80Nm tourque 1500 rpm from gearbox to alternator using the Vee belt. How many belt should I use? two groove, 3 groove pulley ? Guys..pls do help me

First of all, check your figures.

80Nm at 1500rpm only gives 16.85hp.

This information is available in any mechanical engineering hand book or in catalogs of best manufacturer.

Are you requesting others to calculate the things and give you straight answers?

Gates has an application you can download called Gates DFPro. Given inputs such as power and speed and center to center distance, it will come up with an assortment of applicable pulley and belt combinations, from their line, which includes toothed, conventional, multi grooved, etc.
