Transmitter Cable Entry

04/02/2008 4:53 AM

Hello All,

When would one select M 20 cable entry for transmitter? Generally it is 1/2 " NPT . Is there any specific reason when to use particular Transmitter cable entry connection ?

Many Thanks in Advance!!

We usually just order what's standard because we don't have any specific reason to choose one over the other. This might not be the case for other people, however.

The only advantage that I could see for choosing 1/2" NPT is to have the ability to connect the transmitter housing directly to a 1/2" electrical conduit. The instrument cable stays protected inside the conduit and, as far as I know, is a requirement for explosion proof applications.

Hi vulca,

Thanks for your reply.I had a disussion with my firend about the same. Is it true that , when considering an outdoor applications (like on ship) M 20 cable entries for transmitter would be better than 1/2 " NPT?

It all depends on the country, and the preferred standard. As we use metric on most things, we would use M20 as these glands and conduit fittings are more common.

It depends on the standard and the country. M20 is more common with the suppliers. I dont prefre conduit solution, I prefer armoured cables with cable glands even in the explosion proof solutions as well as the IS systems.
