The plunge pool or stilling basin is a body of water at the end of a spillway, Energy is dissipated there and the outflow is relatively quiet.

Or to put it in another way there will be scouring in the bed and banks of the river if it was not there.

A plunge pool can also be a swimming pool where you can take a plunge.

Does that mean that the pools below the spillways around here that we swim in are double plunge pools?

No that would be called a plunge and dispose pool.

I wonder what happened to amit. I think his question may have only been about an inflatable pool.
