Is removal necessary now? Boilers with leaking tubes are sometimes repaired by blanking off the affected tube until such time as a scheduled tube replacement is required at the periodic insurance inspection and test interval.

  • Option 1: Specialised devices are available to do this at each tube plate.
  • Option 2 is to plug the tube with 2 plugs and a threaded rod passing down the centre of the affected tube (assuming it is a straight tube).
  • Option 3 is to fill it with cement.

If the tube is leaking between the tube and the tube plate, then it should be simply re-expanded into the tube plate carefully until the leak stops.

At a scheduled insurance examination, the tubes are usually removed with careful use of oxy-cutters. The tube plates must not be damaged by the operation, otherwise as well as the tubes, the tubeplates will require attention/replacement as well.

All the above tasks should be carried out by appropriately skilled and qualified operatives. If in doubt, buy-in the service and pass the liability to the supplier by so doing.

Who are you? What are you? Are you certified for the job? If you do not know how to remove a boiler tube from a fire tube boiler then what are you doing here? This is a boiler not a home pressue cooker. You cannot replace the boiler tube without informing the boiler office and their inspector's instruction to do so after his inspection. He will then give you in writing what you need to do and which tubes to remove. After this you need to get a certified Boiler Company to replace the boiler tubes with new ones, undertake hydraulic, the boiler inspector will then visit and certify before you fire your boiler.
